Kangaroo Island Free Range Eggs turns 30

Our friends Tom and Fiona Fryar started scheming business ideas the same time as us and here we all are 30 years later. KI Free Range Eggs began with just a few hundred hens at their property at Cygnet River in 1992. The operation has grown to 80,000 full-beaked, pasture-raised hens that produce two semi-truck loads of true free range eggs a week, truly an amazing achievement!
We proudly use Fryars eggs on our menu at our Emu Ridge Cafe for all of our baking and cooking of our delicious breakfasts. We are always receiving comments on the delicious flavour of the eggs.
Fryars Kangaroo Island free range hens are protected from predators by there beautiful Maremma stock guardian dogs who live with the hens. They are excellent at protecting against eagles and feral cats. These dogs play a big part in allowing Them to provide true free range eggs. Kangaroo Island is also fox free!
The business grew to 10,000 birds, so the Fryars bought a property at Haines in 2002 for their growing business.
After many years of hard work just like us they have there children working with them in there business, there two sons Thomas and Jason and daughter in laws Kirby and Bonnie, they employ around 25 staff.
These days they run about 80,000 full-beaked pasture raised hens on about 2000 hectares, at no more than 190 hens per hectare – true free range.
The Fryars also have state of the art equipment for their grading and processing and proudly supply to outlets across Kangaroo Island, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney
So keep your eyes out for these delicious eggs at your local Drakes, IGA or independents!
