Kangaroo Island Gin

The World’s Only Gin Distilled with our Eucalyptus Blossom
We are excited to introduce our Limited Edition Emu Ridge Kangaroo Island Gin, a true gin, grown, distilled and served where it began.
For over 30 years, our family has grown and distilled Eucalyptus cneorifolia, the Kangaroo Island Narrow Leaf Mallee, on our farm in Kangaroo Island, South Australia. This remarkable species grows naturally nowhere else on Earth.
From its leaves, we produce 100% pure eucalyptus essential oil using traditional steam distillation.
But once each year, something extraordinary happens.
The trees flower.
And the scent is unforgettable, soft, sweet, delicate and floral. Completely different from the familiar sharpness of eucalyptus leaf.
For decades we have stood among those blossoms in summer, wishing we could capture that fleeting perfume.
Now we finally have.
This is the only gin in the world distilled with Narrow Leaf Mallee eucalyptus blossom, grown, harvested and produced on Kangaroo Island.
The Flowering of Kangaroo Island’s Narrow Leaf Mallee
Each summer on Kangaroo Island, usually from December through to February, our Narrow Leaf Mallee trees burst into clusters of cream-white flowers. The blossoms grow in small umbels along the stems, attracting bees and nectar-feeding birds, and filling the warm island air with their subtle fragrance.
While Eucalyptus cneorifolia flowers annually, the intensity of the bloom varies from year to year, responding to rainfall, temperature and the rhythms of the season. Some summers are breathtakingly abundant. Others more restrained.
The window is always brief.
It is during that fleeting flowering season that we carefully capture the delicate aromatics of the blossom transforming something momentary into something lasting.
Distilling the flower rather than the leaf reveals an entirely different side of eucalyptus, lighter, sweeter and beautifully refined.
It is this rare seasonal character that defines our Kangaroo Island gin.
From Eucalyptus Oil to Kangaroo Island Gin
Creating our own Kangaroo Island vodka and gin has always been close to our daughter Mel’s heart.
Mel manages the Emu Ridge Café, and it has long been her dream to serve spirits crafted from the very flavours and fragrances grown on our farm, creating genuine Kangaroo Island Eucalyptus cocktails using ingredients growing here naturally.
For us, this gin represents true value-adding.
For decades we have distilled eucalyptus oil, transforming it into natural products and cleaners. Creating a vodka and gin is a new, next evolution, showcasing just how diverse our tree is, value-adding in a completely different form, yet still deeply connected to what we grow.
Now visitors to Kangaroo Island can sit in our café and enjoy a gin distilled from the very trees growing just beyond our door.
That makes us really proud.

Crafted on Kangaroo Island
Our gin is distilled, bottled and labelled on Kangaroo Island at Nepean Bay Distillery by Dr. Graham Jones, who has worked alongside us since 1993.
Larry first met Graham at an essential oil seminar more than three decades ago. What began as a professional connection grew into a long-standing friendship built on shared curiosity, chemistry and a deep love of Kangaroo Island. Over the years, Graham has contributed to eucalyptus research, product development and distilling innovation at Emu Ridge.
Holding a Doctorate in Chemistry and serving as Adjunct Associate Professor in Oenology at the University of Adelaide, Graham brings scientific precision and creative instinct to every spirit he produces. As Master Distiller at Australian Distilling Co., his broader experience across premium Australian spirits further strengthens each batch. Graham and his wife Mary are also founders of Kangaroo Island Ciders (est. 2004), where we share our cellar door space.
Together, we have created a Kangaroo Island gin that reflects three decades of shared knowledge, innovation and respect for the land.
