Viral Post on our orphaned Kangaroo

My daughter Tiffany, the manager of our retail shop popped a Facebook post up of our granddaughter Maggie looking after our little orphan Star. It went viral and she has been inundated with people wanting to use her post and heaps of others that just use it without permission. But that’s social media I suppose!
We are a sanctuary at Emu Ridge, we are licensed and have been caring for orphaned and injured animals for over 30 years. More on our Emu Ridge Sanctuary here.
Below is the story that we found in The New Idea, Tiff had sent some info to a lady but we had no idea it was going into a magazine! We were pleased with the story it was pretty factual which is good.
Here is the link to the story that was on Sunrise who contacted us when they saw the story that was in the New Idea! This is how it rolls I spose. The power of Social Media.
This is how we first met baby ‘Star’, poor little love.
Here’s some information about Star: Kangaroo Island Kangaroos are a subspecies of the Western Grey. We found her when she was 9 months old, and now she’s 16 months old and in the process of being weaned. She’s currently transitioning to life on our farm, where she spends her nights with the wild kangaroos but still returns during the day for the comfort of her bed and a bottle.
As an orphan, Star will continue to drink milk until she’s about 18 months old. Once she reaches maturity at around two years old, she’ll have the freedom to come and go as she pleases until she’s ready to join her friends in the wild. Our farm spans 600 acres, with 200 acres of natural bush and two freshwater lagoons, providing a beautiful environment for Star and her companions to live out the rest of their lives.
I suppose this has bought the attention to people that they should check pouches if they hit something, other wise it is a cruel death. Be mindful on the roads. Kangaroo Island has a great network of carers these days!
I suppose I should share the original post that started all this, we didnt even put it on our page!
