Kangaroo Island Gardening Club celebrates 25 years!
On Sunday 18th February 2024, with the help of the wonderful guest visitor Sophie Thomson, the Kangaroo Island Garden Club celebrated its 25th Birthday. This day was celebrated at an open garden at “Lilyrose” Larry’s sister Lindy’s beautiful garden at Cygnet River.
A delicious morning and afternoon tea was on offer along with lots of plants and produce to buy. It was even made more special by listening to “The Wildflowers” a local ladies band, donated their time to entertain everyone. Lesley Gray Wellness also did a mindful movement class, her message was “move” before & after your gardening experience to maximise your gardening longevity.
Sophie Thomson, a great ambassador for Kangaroo Island was instrumental in helping many families re-establish gardens after the 2019/ 2020 Fires, and she was the special guest and helped everyone celebrate the wonderful day.
The Kangaroo Island Garden Club assisted and supported Sophie in her goal to create the Parndana Community Garden. Sophie has really really enjoyed being able to help our community in many ways. Sophie and The club has dispersed 450 fruit trees, 2500 tube stock plants, vegetable and flower seeds, two pallets of potting mix, 300 roses, one pallet of rose fertiliser and so much more, amazing!
Sophie also did a great story about us at Emu Ridge on Gardening Australia on the ABC
Lenore Boxer was one of the 19 founding members that got together in 1999 and decided Kangaroo Island needed a garden club for the health and wellbeing of like minded people to get together and share their joy in gardens.
Happy Birthday Kangaroo Island Garden Club!
