Emu Oil for leather and upholstery

EMU Oil, EMU Ridge

I bet you never thought that you could use  Emu Oil for softening and preserving leather and cleaning upholstery! A great way to use your oil up if its out of date!

I love Emu Oil for cleaning my car, it’s great on the leather seats, the dash, doors, and any kind of upholstery really. Way better than chemical products like Amor oil, the silicone in products like this is specifically harmful to natural leather and can be toxic.

Emu Oil penetrates the lower layers of the leather to maintain it’s natural to feel. It also prevents drying, fading, and cracking so that leather remains soft and supple. It will maintain, protect and even restore the toughest leather. Emu oil also repels dust, not like chemical brands.

  • Its also fantastic on all saddlery
  • Leather or plastic Handbags
  • Leather or shoes
  • Your lounge suite leather or fake

Leather gets dirty over time. It could be from dirt, dust, mud, grime, oils from the skin, food, various stains, or really anything that gets on the surface and into the fibers over time. It’s important to first clean the leather, freeing up the dirt and removing it. This will allow the oil to penetrate the leather fibers much better.

I  found this DIY Recipe – All Natural Basic Cleanser and Conditioner for Leather

  • distilled water – you buy this from the supermarket and this way you wont have any bacteria to grow
  • 3/4 cup of white vinegar – just regular old white distilled vinegar you use in cooking!
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil – olive oil helps condition your leather furniture as you clean it!
  • Kangaroo Island Eucalyptus essential oil – for additional cleaning power and a fresh clean smell.

Leather is an easy to clean than fabric, but it does need cleaning regularly.  Mix all the ingredients together pour into a spray bottle, shake when using. This recipe is all-natural, cheap, it conditions and cleans, and is also chemical free like the emu oil!

I found this info below on a Corvette forum

Emu oil  will soften the urethane (plastic) covered leather in your Corvette ( I may not have a Corvette but it works for all!)

 Emu oil on leather

When I got the car, I noticed the driver’s seat felt kind of crunchy as did the shift boot and around the emergency brake.

I used some Turtle wax leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats/shift boot… Did not feel or look much different when I was done at that time.

A week later I did it again (turtle wax leather cleaner/conditioner), worked it in a bit then wiped completely off. Then, I sprayed on 303 protectant and added a bunch of drops of emu oil. I let it sit a minute then wiped it off. Repeat once more. After I was done the inside of the car, I simply put a towel over the seats as I normally do so the sun wouldnt beam directly onto it.

Took me a few days to go back and check the leather– feels amazing… so much more soft than before. No emu oil residue at all. I am happy with it and will do the same again next time I do my interior.
