DIY Reed Diffuser Refills

A common question, I have an empty diffuser bottle and sticks and it’s to nice to throw away? Can I make my own refill when my Diffuser runs out?

So here are a couple of easy options for you!

How To Make Homemade Reed Diffusers
This is a great way to disperse Emu Ridge essential oils around your home.

A glass or ceramic container with a narrow opening at the top.
Essential oils of your choice Emu Ridge Eucalyptus and Lemon Myrtle work great together.

To keep it natural use a thin light oil like Sweet Almond or Safflower Oil. You can also use either Vodka and water or rubbing alcohol or metho, Reeds or bamboo skewers. You can find replacement reeds online pretty inexpensively, but if you have bamboo skewers in the kitchen or craft room, just trim off the pointy ends before use.

Below are 3 recipes you can use to make your own naturally without those nasty chemicals. Number one is the easiest!

1. If you’re using an oil base, you will want to use 30% essential oil to 70% base oil. You can experiment with the percentages to see what works best for you. If you find that the oil is not getting drawn up the reeds at the speed at you would like then try adding in a little vodka to help.

2. If you’re using the vodka or rubbing alcohol and water mixture, you will want to add approximately 12 drops of essential oils with 1/4 cup of water then add about 2 tablespoons of vodka or rubbing Alcohol or metho this makes it water soluble.

3. Pour the mixture into your bottle and place one end of the reeds or skewers into the solution, allowing it to saturate the reeds. Then take them out, and place the opposite ends into the bottle. You will want to rotate which ends are in the scent solution about once a week.

HINT: The rattan reeds work much better than bamboo skewers as they have hollow channels through them which help to wick the oil up them and disperse the scent.
