Cleaning your washing machine with Eucalyptus

My favorite use for our Emu Ridge Eucalyptus oil at home is putting a capful in every load of washing, it removes any oil-based stains, kills dust mites and bacteria,  gives your clothes a clean fresh smell, and cleans your washing machine all at the same time! So I have never had to clean my washing machine, I have a Fischer and Paykel front loader and love it. For those that need to clean their front or top-loading machine the natural way, I hope that the below info helps you. Its recommended to repeat the procedure about every three months if you need it.

Front Loader

• Set your machine on the hot wash cycle and add
• 2 tablespoons of carb soda,
• 1/2 cup white vinegar and
• 1 capful of Eucalyptus Oil into the detergent compartment and
• start your normal wash.
• Don’t forget to  clean your filter to

I always leave the door open so any moisture can dry out between washes. If your seals do get grimy.  If there is any mold in the seals, use a few drops or Tea Tree or Eucalyptus oil on a wet cloth to wipe it away.  As a natural antifungal, and will also help to prevent mold. Most front-loading machines have removable dispensers, if they happen to get grotty remove them and pop them in the dishwasher, and they will be like new again!

Top Loader

Much the same as the front loader

• Set your machine on the hot wash once its filled with hot water add
• 2 1/2 cup of carb soda,

• 2 capfuls of Eucalyptus Oil into the water
• start your normal wash.
• Don’t forget to clean your filter to!

Carb soda and vinegar break down any grease and grime in the machine or hoses.  The eucalyptus oil also removes oily residues, freshens and deodorises, leaving a nice fresh scent.

This unique oil is the only one of it’s kind in the world. It is distilled from the leaf of the Kangaroo Island Narrow Leaf Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia). Emu Ridge is the only commercial Eucalyptus Distillery remaining in South Australia.
Distillation of this essential oil began in the 1880’s and dozens of stills were established, making it one of the Island’s major industries.
One company, F.H.Faulding & Co purchased Emu Ridge in 1923, establishing two plantations in 1938 for the purpose of systematically harvesting it on a rotational basis. (The Narrow Leaf responds well to pruning.) Most success, however, was achieved by individuals who set up stills as a seasonal sideline.
Our oil is distilled in the traditional method at Emu Ridge. The leaf is placed into a pot containing water, beneath which a fire is lit, steam carrying the oil is passed through a system of cooling pipes, the oil separates and is piped off into containers.
